1. Introduction

The first full frame 16-17 mm lens was launched on the market only in 2023. Let's face it, the line-ups of many producers used to have a huge gap in this sector. On the one side this gap was limited by 14 mm instruments, not especially fast and equipped with a big, bulky front element that makes using classic filters impossible. On the other side you got 20 mm lenses and in recent years they have been improved significantly. Now you can find among them even instruments as fast as f/1.4-1.8.

Still they are many people that fint the angle of view of 20 mm devices a bit too narrow and here you can find a place for 16-17 mm class lenses that are able to offer you a field exceeding 100 degrees, a good aperture fastness and a classic filter thread as well.

Viltrox AF 16 mm f/1.8 - Introduction

It's an interesting thing that the Chinese Viltrox was the first company that decided to try their chance in this segment. The launch of the Viltrox AF 16 mm f/1.8 took place already in May 2023 and it overtook the launch of the rival Sony instrument by almost two years.

We are very pleased by the fact that even less renowned producers can be quite pushy on this very demanding market, mobilizing more known and bigger companies to make their move. The competition is more fierce and we, the customers, are gaining more and more.
