1. Introduction

Zoom lenses that are able to offer ultra wide angles on their one end and images similar to those generated by classic 35 mm instruments on the other have been present on the market for many years. We think here about devices which focal ranges start from 14-18 mm and end at 28-40 mm.

Not so long ago producers decided to go one step forward and offer lenses that are wide angle at one end and standard or even slightly telephoto devices at the other. So far, Panasonic has been a leader in this category, presenting the outstanding Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Summilux 10-25 mm f/1.7 ASPH designed for bodies with Micro 4/3 sensors and then they launched the full frame Panasonic Lumix S 20-60 mm f/3.5-5.6.

Sony FE 20-70 mm f/4 G - Introduction

We didn't have to wait long for the answer of the competitors- in the middle of 2023 Sony decided to enter that segment of the market in a decisive manner by presenting the Sony FE 20-70 mm f/4 G which was able to beat the full frame Panasonic device when it came to focal range and aperture fastness too.
